Thailand strikes again, with their heavenly cute lesbians and almost too perfect Tomboys that are the perfect description of a trap! Sadly this time around it isn’t a full movie but rather just a small part of the big picture that centres on three stories which intertwine somewhat. Think of the 4Bia series if you don’t know about 3 A.M already!
Yes, this is a horror movie. Though if you have seen this movie, we can all agree that the Convent part could have done as a stand alone movie that has nothing to do with the supernatural. I mean they could just use it as an urban legend but with it not being actually real. There is enough there for the movie to work without the ghosts of vengeance and all that. It could have made for a perfect love triangle to rule them all especially if that twist remained. Okay, maybe it could be a thriller but without the BAD ENDS!
Damn that Mai is super cute though >.<
So as I said, the whole movie is split into three different stories that are somewhat connected. It is of course the second story titled ‘The Convent’ that I was interested in the most. I do love horror and in fact I stumbled upon this movie while I was looking for a nice horror flick. I had no idea I would get yuri as a hidden pot of gold! But there it was!
Anyway this is set in a Girls Convent School as per title and we open up in the dorms where Linin is telling a school ghost story to her classmates. Meanwhile Khen (The Tomboy) and Mai (that cutie) are off to the side pretending to read, well, Khen pretends to read!
Linin tells the story if a headless Nun that haunts the abandoned chapel of their school. Story goes that she punished herself for loving someone other than God by blowing her head off in front of the piano and the altar. Being a tragedy of love, there is of course some legend about love attached to her so if you go to the chapel at 3 am and do the ritual, she will apparently grant your wish.
And while all through this story telling, Linin occasionally glances towards the love birds off to the side with a look that is scathing! At this moment in the story of course I knew nothing so I was folding my eyebrows wondering what was up with her. And of course to make me even more confused, Khen would occasionally turn to look at Linin and I just felt as if there was something going on behind the scenes between these two!
If there is one thing I gotta say about Thai movies is that they know how to make Screencap-lovable scenes! Seriously, you guys have no idea how hard it was for me to cut down the number of screenies for this scene from a whooping 400 to just these few! You have no idea…
Any way continuing on, after Linin’s story telling gets interrupted by the dorm mistress, Mai goes off to have a smoke (How can you be so cute while smocking, seriously!!!) and of course Khen follows her over there. These two dear readers, these two were great in their scenes, especially this one! I am still trying ot get over how cute Mai chan is and how perfect a Tomboy Khen is too and now I have to add the fact of the perfection of their scenes as well.
The way Khen gets close to Mai. The way Mai smiles at Khen the way these two just handle this hot hot scene! Khen taking the cigarette away from Mai’s lips and taking a whif from it. They way they look into each others eyes! Jesus Christ this scene guys!
And then Khen starts to undress and I am like, really, you are going to do it here and now!?! Even Maichan was surprised a little bit when Khen began to un-button her shirt. But we got trolled for Khen was simply showing the rose tattoo she had got to match the one Maichan has on her neck!
Apparently there was some promise about Mai going steady with Khen if she had the tattoo planted on her but it seemed she was only joking. Sorry to tell you this Maichan but there are no jokes when it comes to love. Khen is all serious like though and even came prepared for more. To commemorate their time of becoming officially a couple, Khen gives a rose necklace to Mai, which she accepts meaning that she is keeping her word after all.
The two then turn serious and I know what is coming next. It is about to happen. Khen leans if towards Maichan. The distance between their faces and essentially their lips gets smaller by the second. They are going to kiss! My heart is drumming so loud in my chest it is as if I am the one about to have my first kiss! They get interrupted by Linin who appears out of nowhere!
I swear I almost smashed something!
Yes, this is a good thing when you think about it. It shows that there is some kind of Jealousy going on between these two lovebirds and Linin so of course it should be a win-win situation but interrupting a kiss is a no-no in every book that has ever been written! Not even the Devil is that evil! And so I was royally pissed at that moment!
But we learn something more as this scene ends. Mai says something about Khen’s Ex being mean which means that Khen and Linin used to date. I guess that explains the weird looks before but not this animosity of Linin’s. Whatever happened between them?
Thankfully it doesn’t take long to find out what because Khen confronts Linin after she find a dead bird in her locker. She thinks Linin is doing it. Seems like Linin still has issues with them. In their confrontation we find out briefly how close they were and how Khen gave the exact same necklace to Linin before.
Okay, that was no cook khen, not cool at all. They really looked happy together too. I wonder why they broke up in the first place! Well, if it was because Khen couldn’t resist Mai-chan’s cuteness I don’t blame her but Linin’s behaviour is kind of disturbing. She comes off as the clingy type so…Any way we never get a clear reason for their separation. If we did, then I missed it.
As time passes, things get worse for Khen. It turns out that she went to the headless Nun and made a wish to be with Mai. (Awww, how cute) But with that wish came some rules that had to be followed and those rules weren’t for the weak. Turns out Khen is the girliest of them all because she struggles to keep up with them. Not doing as she is supposed to of course means that there is gonna be trouble. She starts seeing thins and is close to going mad. She of course tells everything to Mai who decides to help.
The two go to the abandoned chapel to carry out Khen’s due to the
Wishmaster The headless Nun but of course Khen is still Khen. Mai does all the work while she holds onto her in fright. Guess who comes crushing the party? Well not the Nun that’s for sure. Enter the final scene where secrets are revealed when it turns out Khen was being used all this time.
Yep, the twists is that it wasn’t only Khen that made a wish to the headless Nun. Maichan did too but for a completely different person. Apparently Mai loves not Khen but rather Linin. Linin was using her to hurt Khen like Khen had hurt her even she she was preying on Mai’s love for her. But it seems like Mai didn’t have a problem agreeing to it though at that very moment Mai didn’t look too happy about her betrayal.
I don’t think she even made eye contact with Khen even once after her lies were laid to bare. This made me think that even though it was all through deceit at the beginning, Mai may have come to love Khen after all. I mean there is no way she would have filled that much guilt if she didn’t feel anything for her. All those looks they shared looking to all the world like they were actually in love. There is just no way. Mai had to have developed something. I mean she wouldn’t have been ready to go through with that kiss that almost happened just because of hers and Linin’s plans. No way!
Or maybe I am just feeding my conscience but can you blame me when the whole story had been about Khen and Mai with no Linin/Mai at all?! How could I come to care for them when I got to know of their love for just a minute or so?
Anyway, of course Khen failing to fulfil her dues for her wish, The Headless Nun comes to collect and you just know there is gonna be death. Yep, sorry but this is a horror movie after all! I guess now you can understand what I meant about this segment having passed for a full movie that isn’t horror. It would have passed for a romantic thriller or even drama without the ghosts.
Anyway, for sure Mai-chan died in a car accident as she drove off leaving her ‘lovers’ behind by the way. Not so sure about Khen and Linin’s fates but seeing as they are bot ha wreck from their heart-breaks, there was no need to kill them off.
And there you have it.
Short but oh so lovely! I really can’t stop thinking of how cute Mai and her and Khen were! We really need a movie of them together al a Yes or No! I am pretty sure that if they decided to do a movie based off this 3 A.M story and expanding it also taking out the supernatural stuff, it would rival or even beat the Yes or No couple!
Seriously though that Mai-chan!
